I've been toying with the idea of painting the interior of our front door for some time, but had yet to come across a color that I could commit to. The navy blue with stained wood trim that I inherited with the purchase of this house just wasn't cutting it. I had my husband pull off the stained trim and replace it with 4 and a quarter inch white trim. The navy blue paint looked a little better, but still didn't work with the room.
HOWEVER, while perusing the many blogs that I read on a daily basis, I came across a post on Casa de Lewis entitled Pop of Color - DIY Painted Door. Once I saw the color Sada chose to paint her front door, I was instantly hooked. I immediately knew that this was the perfect color to match my newly updated living room. I wrote down the name of the paint color (Mermaid Net by Behr) and drove straight to my nearest Home Depot. Without even as much as a paint chip in hand, I ordered a quart of the paint in a semi gloss finish along with a quarter inch high quality roller and a 1.5 inch paintbrush.
Twenty minutes later, I was back home and sanding the door. I then wiped down the dust with a damp rag and (being too lazy to remove them) I covered all the door hardware with painter's tape and lay down a tarp on the ground.
Two coats of paint and one hour later...
How about a little before and after action?
There's still a little more work to do. You can see some stained wood in between the door and the trim, which still needs to be primed and painted white. Hopefully I can get that completed by next weekend.
So what do you guys think? Not too shabby for $20 and a couple of hours of work?!
