Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

This hot chocolate dry mix is easy to make in only a few minutes, stores well for months and tastes better than even gourmet store bought varieties!

When the days get colder, there’s nothing better than a mug of delicious hot chocolate. But sometimes, you don’t want to make a whole pot from scratch and just want an instant single serving.

That’s where this homemade hot chocolate shines! Of course, it can also be used to make a big batch, but I love to keep it on hand for a quick mug of my favorite drink.

This is a traditional hot chocolate mix that’s rich and creamy and tastes as good (better in my opinion!) as any gourmet store bought cocoa mix.

This recipe makes enough for one 25oz canister, but the recipe can be halved or doubled as needed. It’s also an awesome gift idea, paired with a cute mug, drink stirrers and marshmallows.

HOW DO YOU MAKE HOT COCOA MIX?

It’s very simple. Combine cocoa powder, chocolate chips, powdered milk, and sugar in a large bowl, then whisk together.

How To Serve

As with any hot chocolate, this is best made with whole milk. If you want it extra creamy, you can also use half and half or even add a dash of creamer. Technically you can also make it with hot water, since there is milk powder in the mix, but it’s best made with milk.

For one serving, simply mix 3 – 4 tablespoons of the mix with hot milk and stir until well blended and the chocolate chips have melted. I still prefer to heat the milk in a pot and whisk the dry mix in, but a mug of milk in the microwave and a spoon to mix works too!

This Mix Makes a Great Gift

I love to give this homemade hot chocolate mix as a gift in these glass containers, alongside a cute mug and some marshmallows, and finished off with these adorable free printable gift tags. Cute, right?

And that’s it, my friends! Easy to make and perfect for a gift this holiday season!

Cheers to many cozy cups of hot cocoa over the next few months!
