One of the easiest ways to totally transform even the most old-fashioned kitchen is to paint the cabinets and replace the hardware.
Luckily for us, the cabinets in our new 1960's kitchen are already painted bright white. However, the retro hardware definitely needed to go in the trash and be replaced by a more modern look.
D Lawless Hardware, my favorite website for all things pulls/knobs/handles, was nice enough to supply us with what we needed to give this kitchen a mini makeover. I loved the steel bar pulls we chose when we remodeled the kitchen in our last house, so I decided to go with those again but this time add a satin nickel cup pull to the drawers to mix things up a bit.
I made sure to measure the existing holes before placing the order, knowing that would make this project super easy. I didn't even switch out the screws. Unscrew the old, chuck it in the trash, screw on the new. Easy peasy.
As soon as I switched out the first handle, I was giddy with excitement. I immediately shared the image below on Instagram because I needed to tell the world!
And here's what the kitchen looks like today (note: we are still unpacking! Do not judge me on how messy it is! I seriously think I'm going to be unpacking all winter long)
I really can't believe that this old kitchen, dare I say it, looks modern? I mean the countertop is pretty gross and there's still some scalloped trim stuff going on - but this is a VAST improvement don't you think?
One small update done. Many MANY large updates to come!
Thank you to D. Lawless Hardware for outfitting my kitchen. At least now I can bare to look at it :-)
What size are your bar & cup pulls? Thanks!
Hi Ellen, if you click into the links to the hardware mentioned in the post the sizes should be mentioned there.
I love the new satin nickel hardware! Looks amazing... it's amazing what a difference something so seemingly small makes to the overall look and feel of your kitchen.
Looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I love that you can paint your kitchen cabinets and make them look new. I really like that cabinets that you have pictured and their rustic appeal. I would love to get my kitchen cabinets updated and modernized.
OMG - the kitchen looks great with the new bars and cup pulls. You are not messing around and redoing the house already. I am happy the company provided the hardware for you too.
