One of the easiest ways to give a new look to a space is to shop your home. Yes, you read that right – shop your home! I guarantee you have home decor items in other areas of your home that would be perfect for another room. Check closets, basements and attics too – if you’re anything like me, who knows what’s stashed away!
With that being said, I’m so excited to announce that on the second Wednesday of every month, I’ll be teaming up with some amazing bloggers to show you how to decorate or style a thrifted item. This might be an old item that’s being repurposed, a hand-me-down or even something that caught my eye in the thrift store. But the idea is to show you how to bring new life to old items!
I’m planning to make over our guest room later on in the year but back in March it desperately needed a quick refresh before my mom joined us for 6 weeks. After all, she was kind enough to fly over from Ireland and watch Cian while I was recovered in hospital after the birth of Conor (and then all that NICU business too). The least I could do was put her up in a pretty room, right?
I didn’t do anything crazy apart from buy a new comforter and move my old thrifted dresser in here. But it made a big difference.
Do you remember this dresser that I painted a few years ago?
I gave it a lovely coat of navy blue paint several years ago but since we moved it hasn’t had a permanent home. I can’t believe I didn’t think sooner to put it in the guest room!
All it needed was a few new accessories and it really brightened up an empty corner of the room.
I also switched out the hardware on the front. These antique brass cup pulls and bar pulls were a great find at Lowe’s. They contrast so well with the navy, too!
If you’re interested in painting your own piece of furniture, you must read the post I did about this navy blue paint. It’s called handsome for a reason, and it’s my very favorite furniture paint!
My friends are sharing some other great thrifty ideas this month so please show them some love and visit their blogs!
