Your lawn needs a proper irrigation system in order to stay beautifully green and hydrated throughout the hot summer months. In this post I'm sharing my cheap and easy way to DIY your own sprinkler system!
As temperatures here in Massachusetts soar to the mid 90's, my lawn, hydrangeas and all other forms of greenery begin to suffer. I am the homeowner who spends a small fortune putting down new grass every year because my lawn gets burnt to a crisp every.single.summer.
We were doing pretty good last year until we went away on our honeymoon for a week. A week without water in the middle of the summer equals death to grass.
Last year's sun scorched lawn
This summer I have vowed to changed. In my dream home, I would have an amazing automated irrigation system. This is not going to be in the budget for this home at any point. I could just do like millions of others do and water my plants and run the sprinkler every evening. Chances of that actually happening? Slim to none. I'm not going to lie about it. It won't get done.
"So how do hope to keep this vow to yourself, Jenna" you say I'm glad you asked! This little fella is my new best buddy:
I'm sure I'm probably the last person on the hose-timer bandwagon, but this device has been a life safer over the past week. By the way, you can pick one up here for about $32. I have mine hooked up to a regular hose that's hidden behind the bushes at the front of my house. The house is attached to a regular oscillating sled sprinkler that I already owned.
I have the timer set to turn the sprinkler on at 6am every morning. It runs for 45 minutes before automatically turning off. It's worked so well that I'm going to buy another time for the back of the house. I'm also going to buy a Y Valve so that I can have two hoses attached for extra coverage!
I'm going to tidy it all up by covering the hoses with some mulch to make them even more hidden.
This simple and affordable solution might not be a custom designed irrigation system, but my DIY Sprinkler sure does do a great job for now!
Another win for this Wife in Progress!
