Today I’m thrilled to be sharing my first summer room tour of the season: my Coastal Inspired Living Room – filled with shades of navy blue and white.
Hello friend! If you’re stopping by after visiting Southern State of Mind – welcome! Isn’t Heather’s home beautiful? I’m so happy to have you join me and my talented blogger friends as we share our homes with you, and a huge thank you must go out to Krista from The Happy Housie for organizing it all.
It seemed like in a blink of an eye, May was over. Was it the same for you? Summer is always a crazy time of year around here. With birthday parties, sports and this time a pre-k graduation and Conor’s Christening (finally! Did you see his little outfit on my Instagram!?). My entire family has been over from Ireland for the past week so I’ve been busy playing chauffeur, chef and all-round hostess. I’m not going to lie – I’m a little tired!
But before my family arrived arrived, the front door got a new coat of paint (Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black) and I had time to put the finishing touches on my living room refresh. Gone are the vibrant greens of spring and in are the navy blues and white for that perfect coastal look.
These hot pink peonies are such a stunning contrast to the navy blue, right? They stop it from feeling like it’s just a sea of blue in here.

The new rug is a firm favorite with the entire family. I love the pattern and the color and my husband loves that the busy-ness of it distracts from the trail of crumbs that the baby leaves behind him wherever he goes!!
This whole makeover started with me painting our yellow-bricked fireplace white (see the tutorial here) and escalated quickly when I realized the bright white completely threw off the rest of the space.
So in came a new modern coffee table, the new rug and as well as new throw pillows. Followed by this pretty blue armchair that was a total steal of a deal and finally, to finish it off, some artwork (from HomeGoods) and a hammered gold sconce over the chair.
The blue cache pots on the mantel are from Pottery Barn and no longer sold online but my local store still has them, so I if you like them I would check yours, too.
I had the hardest time photographing the room from this angle. Do you notice the pink tint over the white? Our Rhododendrons are right outside our living room window and for several weeks our interior is bathed with a sea of pink light coming from them. It’s truly stunning (they are about 10 feet tall!) but makes it very annoying to take photos!
There’s navy and white in every corner of this room but it doesn’t feel boring thanks to lots of texture, like with these throw blankets and woven basket.
The throw pillows are a mix of old and new, by the way. The plain denim looking ones (far left) are from HomeGoods – they still have them all the time. The blue and white patterned ones came with our navy blue basement couch and the patterned dark blue pillows are from Pottery Barn. With such a busy rug, I wanted to keep the pillows mostly solid but with a bit of texture. I opted to put the patterned pillow in the middle to break up the solids but not so much that it competes with the rug.
This oblong pillow was a Target find and I believe it also comes in a regular square throw pillow.
The very last thing I did in this space before calling it done was to switch out the photos above the couch. I hadn’t changed them since I originally made the frames but now that we have some nice, updated family photos I thought it was about time. I also updated the tutorial on how to make the frames which you can check out here.
Now that you’ve seen my summer living room, it’s time to visit my friend, Christina from The DIY Mommy who is sharing the most beautiful lake house!
