If you’re looking for a thoughtful and personalized gift for a loved one this holiday season, consider putting together a homemade hot cocoa gift basket. Not only is it a thoughtful gift, but it’s also easy to put together and can be customized for the gift recipient. It’s the perfect gift!

It’s hard to go wrong with food when thinking of homemade gifts for your family members, coworkers, or neighbors. Putting together a hot chocolate gift basket filled with the best hot cocoa powder (recipe down below!), the cutest gift tag, marshmallows, a festive mug, and candy canes is the perfect treat!

Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix

The base of this heartfelt gift – hot cocoa! Whip up a batch of my favorite homemade cocoa mix and fill your glass or mason jars.

This recipe makes enough for one 25oz canister, but the recipe can be halved or doubled depending on how many gifts you’d like to make. One batch should go a pretty long way for gifting because you’ll use small jars for the hot chocolate gift set.

Trust me when I tell you, this will be the best cup of hot cocoa you ever make. You’ll never go back to store bought after experiencing this one!

Gift Tags

If you’ve decided to gift hot chocolate this year, whether it’s homemade hot chocolate mix or hot chocolate packets, you need to print these adorable gift tags that were designed by my Mother-in-Law, Cindy Lu Mainely Cards.

Printed gift tags cut out with a scissors

I might be biased, but I think they are the best part of these holiday gifts. Isn’t it such a cute tag?

Even the most boring container of mix will look festive with one of these guys hanging off it! It’s definitely the perfect addition to pretty up that jar.

TO DOWNLOAD: All you have to do is sign up for my newsletter, then download the template and print it off. One side has the hand-painted design, while the reverse has instructions for making the hot chocolate.

When printing the tags, I recommend using a white cardstock paper like this one. The thicker the better!

Print Page 1 first, then align the paper in the printer again in the direction that’s needed to print Page 2 on the back. For me, that means popping it back into the drawer with the printed image on top.

It’s that easy! For a really crisp looking tag, I like to make sure my printer is set to the highest quality print.

Add a Mug, Candy Cane, and Marshmallows

Now that you’re cocoa mix is made and assembled beautifully into the jar, you can start arranging the gift basket. You’ll want to include a cute mug or two, a bag of mini marshmallows, and a candy cane to fill up the basket and make it a decadent gift.

If you want to try your hand at homemade marshmallows, this is the perfect opportunity. Feel free to swap out the candy cane for other fun toppings instead. You can personalize these based on each recipient and their favorite treats!

Here are a few great add-in ideas:

  • Chocolate Spoons
  • Flavored Syrup
  • Small Chocolate Candies
  • Milk Chocolate Chips
  • Powdered Milk
  • Homemade Cookies
  • Peppermint Spoons

I opted for crinkle cup paper shreds but you can also use tissue paper if it’s more convenient for you. Just make sure to fluff it up enough so the items stand up.

Wrap Cellophane and Tie Ribbon

Wrap some cellophane around the gift box and tie with a ribbon, and you’ve got a thoughtful (and delicious) hot chocolate gift! A cellophane bag is the best choice in my opinion because you’ll be able to see through to all the goodies without having to open it. But, if you can find some clear treat bags large enough they should work too.

This cozy chocolate gift basket is sure to be a hit among your friends. Homemade gifts are always better, right? You’ll enjoy putting together this festive treat for the chocolate lover on your list. Plus, it’s really a simple gift once you get started making it!

  1. Your gift tags are sooo cute!!! I happen to be a gift tag, wrapping paper, ribbon and everything wrapping phonetic!! I always go out 1-3 days after Christmas to pick up supplies for next time. It helps to cut costs related to wrapping gifts. The prices are usually at 50-90% by the end of January. Try it, you love it. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday!!!🎄🎄🎄
