Modern house colors for exteriors play a pivotal role in enhancing curb appeal and complementing the architectural style of the home.
When selecting the best exterior house paint colors, it’s essential to consider factors like natural lighting, the color palette of the surrounding landscape, and the architectural details of the home.
Here are eight modern house colors, which include options from both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, that make excellent choices for a contemporary, stylish exterior.
1. Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black
SW Tricorn Black is a deep, true black that makes a bold statement when used on home exteriors.
It’s an excellent choice for modern homes with clean lines and works wonderfully as an accent color for front doors or window frames. This dark color pairs elegantly with white trim, creating a classic combination that offers a modern twist, especially in mid-century modern homes.
BM Hale Navy is a deep blue with a hint of gray, making it a versatile and popular choice for modern houses.
This navy blue color provides a softer alternative to black exteriors, while still offering the richness and depth of darker colors. It’s a great choice for the main color on exterior walls, and it pairs beautifully with white trim or stone accents for a sophisticated and contemporary look.
3. Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray
As a light gray, SW Agreeable Gray is a neutral shade that offers a fresh coat of paint for the whole house without being overpowering.
Its ability to adapt to different colors in the surrounding environment makes it a top choice for exterior house colors. It’s particularly effective in designs that emphasize natural elements and works well with both bright white, black and warmer wooden accents.
4. Benjamin Moore Simply White
BM Simply White is a bright, pure white that brings a fresh and clean aesthetic to modern exteriors.
This white paint is a good choice for a white exterior, providing a crisp backdrop that enhances the architectural details of the home. It’s a versatile color that pairs well with darker shades like deep green or light colors like sky blue, offering a range of exterior color scheme possibilities.
5. Sherwin Williams Iron Ore
SW Iron Ore is a soft almost black paint color that lends a sophisticated and contemporary feel to the exterior of your home.
It’s a perfect exterior paint color for those seeking a dark but not black option. This color works exceptionally well with modern farmhouse styles and can be used as a main color or for accents such as the garage door or door frames.
6. Benjamin Moore Calm
BM Calm is a neutral shade that leans towards a light beige, offering a warm and inviting feel to the home’s exterior color.
Its understated elegance makes it a popular choice for different architectural styles, from contemporary homes to historic homes. This color choice works well with natural lighting, highlighting the home’s architectural details without overwhelming them.
Sherwin Williams Caviar
SW Caviar is a deep black that provides a dramatic and luxurious feel to modern houses. It’s an excellent choice for making a bold color statement, especially when used on a black door or black trim.
This color is ideal for those looking to create a modern exterior color scheme with a bold and sophisticated edge.
7. Benjamin Moore Chelsea Gray
BM Chelsea Gray is a mid-tone gray paint that offers a perfect balance between light and dark shades.
It’s a great choice for the main color on the exterior walls, providing a neutral backdrop that complements a wide range of accent colors, from bright yellow to deep green.
This color is especially suitable for modern architecture, as it harmonizes beautifully with both cool tones and warmer wood finishes.
Final Thoughts
When considering these colors for your modern home, it’s important to remember that the best exterior paint colors are those that align with your design style and the unique characteristics of your home.
Whether you’re aiming for a classic look with a modern twist or a bold contemporary statement, these colors offer a range of options to enhance the exterior of your home.
Additionally, incorporating elements like a fresh coat of paint on the trim or choosing a complementary color for architectural details can significantly impact the overall aesthetic and increase the curb appeal of your property.
This is a great list. I have been thinking about my cabinets and updating the color. Do you think I can do the cabinet painting on my own or should I skip the risk and just pay a pro? I would love to save some money if possible.
While I enjoy your articles your color choices are very depressing.
I live in a new develoment and it seems as though most people chose varying shades of gray, or blue gray. That is also depressing. The world is depressing enough without looking at these depressing colors. Just my opinion. (We chose barn red for our home just to be different.)
Each to their own! I would personally get very tired of a red house (it’s my absolute least favorite color) but it’s important to do whatever makes YOU happy! White, gray and blue continue to be the most popular choices because they have a calming (not depressing) effect for most people.
