Our New Bedroom Reveal

Well, it’s been a year in the making but our new primary bedroom is finished and ready to share with you!

Before we even started on the plans for our new addition, it was important for me to consult with an interior designer. And not for the reasons you may think. I am perfectly capable of designing a room (I designed our entire kitchen renovation myself), but I wanted to make sure that instead of just working with an architect that would design the layouts, that I was working with someone who understood how we live and how we needed our spaces to function.

While many people think interior designers just pick out paint colors, throw pillows and furniture they also focus on how the space will be used daily. They consider furniture placement, traffic flow, storage solutions, and how the layout supports your lifestyle.

So I worked with the interior designer on several iterations of this room (and the ensuite) to ensure that it would work for us and how we live. Then, her plans were sent to the architect who did the official stamped drawings.

Another bonus of doing it this way is that the interior designer is typically cheaper than the architect, so instead of doing multiple iterations with the very expensive architect, we only had to send one set of plans to be officially drawn up.

When an interior designer and architect work together, you get the best of both worlds: a space that is structurally sound, visually beautiful, and perfectly suited to your needs.The designer’s vision helps inform the architect’s plans, leading to a more seamless building process.

Now back to the finished bedroom!

I’m personally not a fan of expansive bedrooms where you need add a ton of furniture to make it cozy. I wanted enough space for a king bed (we’ve never had one before!) plus nightstands on either side. We opted to have more space for our walk-in closet and bathroom.

Luckily, we were able to vault the ceilings which gives the appearance of the room being much larger than it actually is!

I chose the color scheme for this room and kept it similar to what we had in our old bedroom.I used the same blue curtains and artwork, and even the shams and throw blanket are the same as what we previously had!

The white chandelier is the statement piece in the room, so I chose to keep everything else clean and simple. Even our nightstand lights are sleek and elegant and don’t detract from the ceiling light.

The nightstands are LARGE! They are perfectly sized in here but they are substantial! I love the warm wood and how it balances out all the light, cool tones in the room and just warms everything up.

The walls and ceiling are painted Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee and it’s officially my new favorite paint color. It’s so light and bright with just the right amount of creaminess.

It’s fascinating how light can really impact colors – it looks as if there’s two different colors on the walls and ceiling, but it’s all Swiss Coffee in a flat sheen!

While I chose to work with an interior designer for all the layouts, we did purchase some of the furniture she suggested but also supplemented with plenty of more affordable finds. How stunning is this mirror? I bet you won’t believe it’s from Walmart (the price is SO good!) and the little ottoman is from Target.

There’s something about the simplicity of these table lamps that I fell in love with. The price is more affordable than many of the lamps out there and they’re just so sleek, stylish and classic.

Well there it is! I have to say we really love how it turned out. It’s such a bright and airy room, and it’s truly everything I wanted and more!

Floors: 2.25 inch white oak planks stained with Bona Provincial and finished with water based poly (Bona Traffic HD).
